Florida I-4 Mass Auto Accident In Polk County

Florida I4 Crash

Where's the Outrage

I-4 Crash Could Have Been Avoided

On the morning of January 9, 2008 officials knew of the controlled burn just miles away from Florida’s interstate 4 highway as well as weather reports predicting heavy fog in the areas of Polk County, Bartow, Winter Haven, Lakeland, Haines City, Auburndale, Lake Wales and Mulberry to include most of central Florida and the Polk county area. In spite of this knowledge no one took precautions to avoid a potential disaster and as a result many lives have been changed forever.

At this point, 4 are known dead and scores wounded from the most preventable accident this year. Interstate 4 is a heavily traveled thoroughfare from Tampa to Orlando and on a good day there are traffic jams, construction delays, and weather problems, combine this with low visibility and negligence and on a bad day…….. lives are lost.

Why wasn't interstate 4 shut down prior to the terrible tragedy that cost lives and untold human suffering?

According to print media reports, officers responding to the scene did not have more than 5 feet of visibility. Why didn't a public official intervene and stop this needless, senseless tragedy? As the stories come in via media outlets they make me cringe in horror as I sense what the pain and suffering these families must be experiencing as they helplessly watch their loved ones suffer.

Human life is fragile at best but it doesn't need to be made all that more fragile by our own carelessness and wanton disregard for public safety. Today, lives have been altered, families have been shattered, and futures disrupted forever, and it all could have all been avoided.

We have to be more careful and willing to sacrifice the comfort of a few for the benefit of the many. This tragedy must not be allowed to fade from public memory without someone being held accountable.

We extend our condolences and sympathies to those who have been injured or lost a loved one to this preventable tragedy and look forward to assisting all of our clients in achieving the most complete recovery possible
