The Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles settled its priest abuse lawsuits for $660 million on the eve of a trial that would have forced Cardinal Roger Mahony to testify to his complicity in the sexual abuse scandal or perjure himself in order to protect his embattled church. As part of the settlement agreement, the Archdiocese agreed to release the priest personnel files which detail the cover ups, transfers, and sexual abuse of priests in the Archdiocese.
