Axiron is a prescription drug for low testosterone and it is manufactured by Eli Lily of Indianapolis. AndroGel, is the same drug but manufactured by Abbot Laboratories and Abbvie of Chicago. Both drugs are meant for men who have lower than normal levels of testosterone in their bloodstream, they take the prescription medication to boost up their testosterone levels, hence the TV advertising nickname “low T”.

Testosterone is a steroid hormone naturally produced by the body, among other things testosterone is responsible for maintaining and regulating secondary sexual characteristics like muscle mass and the growth of body hair. Symptoms of a man who is suffering from low testosterone are; decreased sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, fatigue and loss of energy , depression, loss of body hair, decrease in strength or osteoporosis.

Axiron can double or even triple the risk of a heart attack. Other possible side effects include swelling of your ankles feet or body, enlarged or painful breasts, problems breathing while you sleep and blood clots in your legs which can include pain, swelling or redness of your legs. If you already have enlargement of your prostate gland, your signs and symptoms can get worse while taking Axiron, which can include increased urination at nighttime, trouble starting your urine stream, having to pass urine many times throughout the day, having a urine accident or being unable to pass urine or a weak urine flow.
